Terms of service

Draft — last updated 4 August 2026

Draft. This document is pending legal review, and the bracketed placeholders below are not yet filled in. The description of how the product handles data is accurate; the legal framing is not final.

The agreement

These terms are between you and __LEGAL_ENTITY__ (“we”), and cover your use of __PRODUCT_NAME__. By signing in you accept them. They are governed by the laws of __JURISDICTION__.

Your account

You need a working email address to sign in; there is no password. Keep access to that inbox secure, because anyone who can read it can sign in as you. You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live.

Your content is yours

You keep all rights to everything you save and write. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service for you: to store your content, to process it so it can be searched and connected, and to send the parts described in our privacy policy to the providers listed there. We do not use your content to train models, and we do not sell it.

What you agree not to do

Do not save content you have no right to save, use the service to break the law, attempt to reach other tenants’ data, or place automated load on the service beyond normal use. We apply rate limits to searches and to fetching pages by URL; working around them is not permitted.

What the service does, and what it does not

Archipelago summarises, connects, and ranks your saved material using automated systems, including language models. Those outputs can be wrong. Summaries, suggested connections, and flagged conflicts are starting points for your own judgement, not statements of fact, and should not be relied on for research conclusions without checking the underlying sources — which is why every generated line links to the documents it came from.

Archipelago is not a backup service. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose; the export in Settings → Data & privacy is there for that.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep the service running but do not promise uninterrupted availability. We may change or discontinue features. If we make a change that materially reduces what the service does, we will give notice in the product.

Plans and payment

The service is currently free to use. If paid plans are introduced, existing accounts will be given notice before any charge applies, and the terms of those plans will be set out at that point.

Ending it

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Danger zone; that removes your content as described in the privacy policy. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, and will explain why where we reasonably can.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, the service is provided “as is” and our liability to you is limited to __LIABILITY_CAP__. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
